Conference 2019

The Rasheed Razvi Centre for Constitutional and Human Rights (RCCHR) organized its first flagship conference titled: “Law, Judicial Interventions and Social Change, with a special focus on Labor Law”, which was held in Karachi, Pakistan, on the weekend of 21st and 22nd September 2019.

The fundamental purpose of this conference was to facilitate engagement and collaboration amongst leaders and pioneers in social justice work, and to make that interaction publicly accessible and curating dynamic debates and collaborative exchanges between Public Interest Litigators, Academics, Political Workers, Activists and Members of the Judiciary who have adjudicated upon landmark public interest litigations.

The conference was divided into three parts, moving from the specific towards the general.

Labor Law: Problematic Present and Future Potential: This session focused on labor related issues, particularly with respect to Occupational Health and Safety, especially, across South Asia i.e. in India, Pakistan and Bangladesh, with a comparative global perspective.

Judicial Interventions and Social Justice: This session focused on the utilities and implications of judicial interventions geared towards a socially, economically and politically equitable society. Dreaming about the Law: South Asia and the International Legal Context: This session will invite all participants to dream: it will seek to write a manifesto for South Asia through legal and judicial means. During this section, the exchange will be focused on strategy making; it will identify the most effective modes of activating solidarity and strategic support through a sustained network.
